Forget personality tests and frameworks. This is just where the work actually breaks, every time I've sat with a stalled business or a burned-out founder. Yours is in here somewhere.
The internal state is the foundation, everything else stands on it. Most people try to build a business, a habit, or a life on top of a nervous system that's still running yesterday's threat. Coherence is the practice of catching that gap before it decides your next move for you.
In plain terms: when you're clear on who you actually want to be, who you want to serve, and the life you're building toward, the business follows. When you're not, no strategy fixes it. I watched my own business steady the moment I got honest that the way I ran it could never get me the life I wanted. Once that was named, everything downstream got easier.
Whatever's happening in your business right now, stalled growth, a launch that fizzled, a client relationship gone sideways, is a mirror. It's showing you something true about your internal state, not a flaw in your tactics. Reflection is the awareness that lets you actually see that connection instead of trying to fix the mirror.
In plain terms: if your business is struggling, look inward before you look at tactics. For a stretch I collapsed into being an employee inside my own company, and the business showed it. The problem was me, not the marketing.
Anyone can produce more, faster, cheaper. The rare skill is knowing what's worth making, and having the nerve to leave the rest alone.
In plain terms: sometimes what's worth making is the thing everyone else in your industry is avoiding. A lot of my client work is helping someone trust the read that says go the opposite direction of their competitors, not to be contrarian, but because that's where their real, unique premium actually lives.
These three are where I look first with anyone I work with. Not a formula. In fifteen years of building things and watching others build, this is where it breaks.
Which one is quietly running the show in your work right now?
You don't need all three solved before you start. You need to know which one is actually in your way.
